FRIDAY UPDATE

The sun is shining & the skies are clear blue. "It is a beautiful day in Haiti!", I would normally declare. Optimistic as it is, it is clearly a difficult statement to make.

Some good news for us here at MTM. Mme. Stephen, our Gramothe school cook & matron of the village, was finally able to phone Willem yesterday. The hospital she was at evacuated Tuesday evening & she found herself near the airport & had been sleeping in the street. She is now at home in Gramothe.

19 of the 23 member Chicago team that was with us have just now departed for the U.S. Embassy where they will remain as they await evacuation. The remaining 4 will be with us until the airport & airlines resume operation. The trauma that this medical team saw at the Baptist Haiti Mission hospital on Tuesday night has taken it's toll, especially on the non-medical people on the team. Continued tremors have us all on the edge of our nerves.

We have no word yet of the MTM school in the village of Dumay. We have not yet been able to go there either.

Victims that have come to our gate have gaping wounds filled with debris & broken limbs that cannot be repaired. Hospitals & clinics here, the few that are still standing, have no supplies. These victims will continue to come, one by one. We will continue to minister however we can. This is truly a time that we will depend on our Healer to do the impossible.

On a personal note, we are very proud of our sons, Stephen & David who have shown forth their gifts of help, compassion, encouagement & others during this week. Stephen has translated & assisted medical proceedures while David just keeps the air light for the all of us at the house. They were in the city yesterday helping friends to recover items from a collapsed house. They have learned about the deaths of at least 2 children at their school as well as classmates' parents that have died or are missing. They seem unaffected, but we are talking.

Tremors continued this morning, though they were heavy for us, I'm sure they were much harder in Port Au Prince. In country phone communications are still not 100%. Everyone is working together to locate loved ones that have not yet been heard from. Victims are still trying to get medical attention. People are still litterally sleeping in the streets for fear of the tremors & because their homes have already been destroyed.

We remain in conservation mode, but we are stepping it up a notch. Gas stations & markets are not yet open & the president of Haiti has not yet spoken to the people.

We really cannot express how grateful we are for all of the emails & facebook comments made this week. We know you are praying. We are encouraged to see & hear your words of encouragement & to know that you are encouraging others. Please, do not stop! We need to see you are there.
Everyone wants to know the needs. Below are the most immediate needs & how you can help. Please, do what you can & continue to encourage others.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

  • COME to serve. As the airlines open up & MTM is able to provide safe working conditions & provisions, we need people to come to help us rebuild lives. Medical, construction & spiritual rebuilding is needed. If you are willing to be on standby for any such teams, please email us right away.

In closing, we are getting hundreds of emails & Face Book comments each day. Moving forward, the primary communication from MTM will be this blog post with additional comments on our Facebook page (email address mtmhaiti@gmail.com). You are welcome to join the Facebook page, but we ask that you do not email MTM at the address above, at this time, unless you are in need of a definate response. It is difficult for us to sort through all of the emails & our time is limited with the other tasks at hand.

Again, we thank GOD for each of you & your efforts to minister to the Haitian people during this time. If you need to speak with an MTM representative, you may call the MTM office at 812-870-3939 to speak with Angie, or, 812-870-5101 to speak with Deb.

With sincere gratitude,

Dear Charles Family,

Please know the prayers continue to flow for you and the Haitian people. We have talked with Dr. Marsha and we are trying to get a medical team together. We will continue to pray for all of you.

My prayers are with all of you at Mt. Top as well as your entire country. I saw a clip of your President on CNN, he was apparently also sleeping on the streets as the palace has collapsed. Help is coming from so many all across the world. Tell your people to hang on. With God's help the roads will soon be open. Supplies are at the airport. I hope you already knew this. May God continue to protect you and use you as His witnesses. It's time for His light to shine and the lost to turn to Him.

I'm happy to be on stand-by to come and help whenever you have a team coming that needs extra hands. Just let me know, and I'll start checking out flights and rearranging classes.

Our Mt Pleasant team is so disappointed we won't be there on Monday. Our bags are still packed, just let us know when you are ready for us. Talked to airline today, they anticipate flights to Haiti beginning on the 20th. Let us know....
Until then, you are in our hearts and prayers
Love to you all....

Hi Beth,

I keep checking FB and this blog to see how things are going. I am so impressed with Stephen and David-they are awesome kids. I am eager to hear about the school in Dumay. St. Gabriel School collected some money today for MTM. I don't know the final total but hopefully that will be on the way very soon.

I saw your family's picture on WRTV6 in Indianapolis yesterday. Keep safe!

Willem/Beth and all of MTM,
Allen Kiger, owner of Kiger Signs, has printed up signs that state "10% of all sales will be donated to Mountain Top from 1/15-1/30. Donations accepted and all proceeds go to the ministry" and asked businesses in Danville, Indiana to display the signs. We have put the sign in the Cafe in Coatesville and our Bakery in Danville. I would urge anyone in the area to please support those businesses with these signs and encourage your friends, neighbors, and coworkers to do likewise. It is an opportunity to share this wonderful ministry with those who don't know about it, and to patronize businesses that are about more than the almighty dollar. I would also encourage all who have been, or thought about going to MTM, to make the commitment to go. Your money is so needed and appreciated, but now, your time would be even more so.

God's love and grace to all,

I've given God many thanks for the safety He's given you all.As I watch the news and read your blog I continue to be amazed and thankful for the God we serve and that even in times like these you can see Him working. You are doing an amazing job keeping everyone informed. Know how much people appreciate you. As much as I want to hop a plane or swim:) over, I am praying and asking God how He is wanting me to be used. Please know whatever, whenever, however I am yours for whatever is needed. This is genuine and from a much different heart. For sometime I have been wanting to say thank you to you and Willem. Thank you for the decision you made for me that I couldn't make for myself. It was honestly the best thing to ever happen to me and allow me to grow into the heart I am proud of. I love you all. Tell the boys how proud I am of them and given them a hug for me. I know David will resist:) Be sure you are taking care of yourself as well as everyone else. Remember anything you need.. All me love...
